The Moto G was the first phone that managed to take the entire industry by storm. The aggressive pricing by Motorola ensured that the device sold like hot cakes. It also managed to be the highest selling and the most successful Motorola phone in the world. Most specs of the Moto G were amazing when it was launched — a Snapdragon 400 with 1GB of RAM was unheard of at that price point. It was termed as the “Budget Nexus” by many.

The Moto G was sold exclusively by Flipkart and it is apparent that Moto will use the same method of sale when launching the successor, the Moto G2. The Moto G2 has been rumoured to have a bigger 5 inch display and a camera upgrade to 8 megapixels — which hopefully fixes one of the biggest drawbacks of the original. A microSD card slot is also expected on the device, something that was missed on the predecessor.

We spotted the Moto G2 in the import data at Zauba.com and looks like the Moto G2 will be available to the public right after the official product announcement on 4th September. To ensure that the stocks are available for the buyers, more than 60,000 black Moto G2 handsets and roughly 14,000 white Moto G2 units are seemingly imported. Now comes the best part, as per Zauba the import price of the Moto G2 is Rs 10,640 for the 16GB unit. Also what’s interesting — there’s no mention of an 8GB version. Good riddance, if you ask us, since 8GB is pitifully low for any smartphone today, especially when it doesn’t have a microSD card slot.

In the past, the Moto E price on Zauba was listed at Rs. 6,330, and it eventually went on sale at Rs. 6,999. Thus it shouldn’t be surprising if the Moto G2 is sold for a little above that import price. And that is the need of the hour — with it’s nearest competitor, the ASUS Zenfone 5, selling for a cool Rs. 12,999 for the 16GB variant and an aggressive Rs. 10,499 for the 8GB version.

PSA: If you fancy the white colour, you might want to hurry when its launched, since as per the report there are far fewer white units than black.

Update: Motorola has officially launched the phone, its called the Moto G 2nd Gen and is priced at Rs 12,999.
